November 2, 2008: A special day

By BN Sinha & RK Rishikesh Sinha
November 2nd, 2008 will always remain fresh in the memory of people who had attended the celebration of Abhirbhav Tithi of Sri Sri Bhubaneshwar Sadhu Thakur at Shiv Mandir, New Delhi. Those who didn’t participate for any reason had really missed something. However, those who were the part of the celebration will always remember the day, perhaps for many reasons.

The day wore an altogether different look and vibrancy. Why not? This was a day where Bishnupriya Manipuri people residing in Delhi and surrounding areas were pouring in at a particular place, at a particular time, for a particular purpose. The day came as a golden opportunity to meet friends, far and near relatives, and those whom we tag as out-of-sight, out-of-mind … It was indeed a special day.

In the congregation of above 300 to 400 Bishnupriya Manipuri people, one could see and feel a clear sense of euphoria in the air. Eyes of the people were wandering, as if they were searching for something precious, lost in the sea of faces. In the faces of the children, teenagers, adolescents, olderly people, and all those who attended the celebration, a sense of contentment, feeling of carefree, was very visible. The created environment was casting a magical impact on everybody. People were busy, irrespective of being acquainted or not, in exchanging greetings, enquiring about others.

Something that was grand and great about the whole celebration was its nature of participation. The attendees were from all parts of Bishnupirya Manipuri dominated areas of Assam, Tripura and Manipur. One could say the venue turned into a true melting pot of Bishnupriya Manipuri people from different geography. Can you imagine the same happening in Silchar, Karimganj, Hailakandi or in the predominant areas of Bishnupriya Manipuri community in Tripura? No, but here it was made possible.

A special moment

However, when Monika Sinha came on the stage with the song “Tor pavira gitar ma kotiou tor srijon, homadiyar sadararang homa” , it created immediately a nostalgic environment, as if we are listening live of the then great singer Miss Meena Kumari, in a small village of Assam or Tripura, in the nineties.

Another feature that had got attention and acceptance in the celebration was the maximum usage of the Bishnupriya Manipuri language in the day-long programme. The typical Brishnupriya Manipuri urban coterie who loves to be snobbish by not speaking their mother tongue actively sank into ‘Amar Thar” mode. Regular announcement were ran during the whole celebration: “ Ami habihane amar thar baro amar fijet ore thakat janani lagtoi”. The confidence and the initiative to carry out the whole programme in the Bishnupriya Manipuri language, concludes one thing that the wind of change is in the air and it is blowing in the right direction, thus setting a trend to be followed by.

Those who were catapulting the stature of the Sri Sri Bhubaneshwar Sadhu Thakur’s celebration held at New Delhi to a new height, setting an example for others to follow, bunch of Bishnupriya Manipuri youths wearing “Chankahl Ami” batch were responsible. It is due to their assistance that celebration was held at a grandiose level. Their alacrity, swiftness, feeling of responsibility, sense of belongingness, was something that was making an impression on the assembled people.

The Grand Festival – Durga Puja

By BN Sinha, Kolkata

Among the many festivals we observe, there is always a controversy or difference of opinion which is the major festival observed by us or our community, may be Shree Krishna Janmastami , Raas Utsav or Rath Yatra , it is rather very easy to confess that the most celebrated festival in Bishnupriya Manipuri community is Durga Puja. Reason may be any or many; the fact is that Durga puja always witness us to visit our native place, as often it becomes the official visit to home for the people who are out of their native places. While acknowledging every individuals wish list I must add another that holds good every year when most of us declare ” Ebosor te pujat gore jitouga” ( I will go home puja this year).

As I belong to the city Silchar, Assam, I have always witnessed Durga puja as the most celebrated among all the Hindu festivals. Puja always meant homecoming. In the childhood days we used to anxiously wait for the autumn to arrive that we may receive the compulsory annual gift from parents precisely known as “pujar footi”. As a child it was always waiting patiently for the presets to arrive. A new set of cloths somehow signified the arrival of Goddess into our life and pandals. In the teen days, puja was more about fun. No studies and most importantly four new dresses for the four days. The best to be kept for the Astami, the evening were engaged in eating out and pandal hopping to each and every corner of the city.

From the very childhood I have seen that Puja starts with Birendra Krishna Bhadra’s immoral chandipath at four in the morning on Mahalaya. And it was spectacular to see that thousands of people irrespective of ages come out on the streets in the wee hours in the morning and the street witness a packed crowd. It is probably the unique way for the Silcharites to welcome Ma Durga which we generally don’t see in any part of the world.

It was always believed that the best pujas are only in Kolkata. For me, I have been to Kolkata only twice during Puja. First time in 1996, that year I was totally overwhelmed by the crowds everywhere to the extent that I even felt slightly scared despite being with friends. This year I am again in Kolkata in pre-puja days and will celebrate till Astami as I am scheduled to go to Silchar, Assam on Navami to celebrate half of the puja days with parents.

The pre-puja days atmosphere in Kolkata is incredibly awesome and the jubilant. The mood of euphoria among the people is just cannot be expressed in words. It is a human flood in the markets and in the streets.

There have always been two sides of Durga puja , the economical and conventional. The two stands interlaced, now working in tandem now bumping. And keeping with changes in the nature of festivities, the idea of homecoming during Puja seldom remains inert, motionless. Rather it evolves and transforms itself.

This year Puja in my village reaches its twentieth year and consequently the budget for Puja also reached all time high till now. Thus it is definitely a must to go home in my village for Puja celebration this year……..

A very Happy Durga Puja to all.

The capital of Bishnupriya Manipuri

By BN Sinha, Kolkata
We all know that the Bishnupriya Manipuri community is spread mostly in the northeastern part of India especially in Barak and Kushiyara valley of Cachar and Karimgunj districts, in Assam and places in Tripura apart from few places in Bangladesh. Among all the places in Barak Valley, especially Silchar is the place which is most significant.

Silchar can be termed as the hub for all the Bishnupriya Manipuri think tanks, may it be the Bhasha Andolan or any other Brishnupriya Manipuri social renaissance or convention like Mahamel, Silchar has definitely witnessed the most. It is a fact that more that 90 per cent of Bishnupriya Manipuri population live in villages. There are many villages in the Cachar region which has its significance and vital role in all the socio political activities, namely Bhakatpur, Singari, Chengcoorie in Meherpur region and Santipur, Bekirpar, Katakhal in Sonai region and also villages like Bihara, Mohanpur etc in Kalain region are few among prominents.

However, it is a fact that many Bishnupriya Manipuri legend has emerged from these villages as we know Shree Shree Bhubaneswar Sadhuthakur from the Bikrampur region. Villages in Meherpur region always begged the places of most importance among Bishnupriya Manipuri territories, especially in the post independence era. However, when our identity crisis movement and language struggle got the momentum, Bhakatpur emerged as the socio political hub or capital of the Bishnupriya Manipuri community as a whole.

Bhakatpur is the place where all the strategic summit and discussion used to take place as most of the then community leaders belonged to Bhakatpur, consequently it became the starting point of all the rallies, dharnas, and other activities as there was also an advantage that it was the closest to Silchar city. Many Bishnupriya Manipuri  who is who were from Bhakatpur, take music and dance and leaders of our social organizations like NBMM( Nikhil Bisnupriya Manipuri Mahasabha), NBMSU( Studens Union), BMSS( Bishnupriya Manipuri Sahitya Sabha) etc. they have their roots to the land.

Few legends who has immense contributed to enrich our culture are Sh Amusena Sinha, Sh Kunjolal Sinha, Pt. Matilal Sinha, Sh Meenu Sinha, Sh Suronath Sinha. May be the first Bishnupriya Manipuri drama company in pre independence era or the evergreen Bishnupriya Manipuri compositions like Janan Janame More Diya Petheis Hunar Manipure” , ” Lakatake Kader”, O mor konak beibuni”, ” Aar More Ti Ningshing Naais” all these were created in this village. There are other social leaders who has colossally contributed in our language movement, few names are Sh Jagat Mohan Sinha. Sh Mani Kanta Sinha, Sh Manoranjan Sinha.

There are many professionals and educationist from Bhakatpur spread across India who are making their presence felt and doing significantly well in their respective fields of activities. Despite, the ratio has definitely plummeted after late ninties and gradually the focus sifted to another urban Bishnupriya Manipuri village which has off late emerged as the place for most of the present Bishnupriya Manipuri who is who and interestingly that is again Bhakatpur, no not the old one but it is termed as the New Bhakatpur off the Chencoorie Road.

I too belong to the old Bhakatpur village where in I am grown up and if I look to analyze the present village scenario I feel poignant, nevertheless I get relieved that the name Bhakatpur is yet not diminished as the legacy has been taken forward by New Bhakatpur. And I m quite happy to see that…
Proud to be a Bhakatpurian , proud to b a Bishnupriya Manipuri.

Is India Independent?

With a clear sense of uncertainty in the air, maybe, we Indians need another struggle of freedom in order to get rid of all the caste and religion based politics….

By BN Sinha, New Delhi

Today on the 15th of August 2008, India is celebrating its 61st Independence Day and as usual all the Government authorities have organized various functions to celebrate, so also the school children will be accumulated in their respective schools to register their presence for the Independence Day celebration. But all will take place in an official way. So far the common Indian is concerned, especially the urban Indian, it is just another holiday to relax. This time it is a bonus as it falls on the weekend and two more holidays follow the Independence Day. So Indians are on a real jubilant mood and euphoria.

It can be noticed that after sixty years of Independence, the socio political scenario in India has significantly plummeted. There is a clear sign of lack of harmony as more of differences have been noticed among the inhabitants of various demography, irrespective of caste and creed. The political system has deteriorated over the years as we experience more of caste based politics and religious fanaticism and our so called political organizations are leaving no stone unturned to add fuel to the fiasco. They are more concerned about the power game as at times their act registers more of inhumanity as people dies on road blockage, being deprived of timely medical attention, due to strike etc. Crores of tax payer’s money been burned up as protesters destroy the national assets as a mode of protest.

Twenty first century India is in complete chaos. A recent comment by a judge of a higher court says, ” Even God can not save India from these politicians”.

Notwithstanding, still a sense of nationalism exists in every Indian when it comes to the issues of national interest or when we negotiate internationally. We are multi lingual, yet we unitedly digest the melodramatic daily soaps that come in the idiot box in our national language Hindi, and we all shout together whenever there is a six registered by our millionaire cricket stars in a T20 cricket match, so also we register our protest together when the inflation hits over our head.

With a clear sense of uncertainty in the air, maybe, we Indians need another struggle of freedom in order to get rid of all the caste and religion based politics. To get rid of the anti national agitations, to get rid of the politicians who are not even aware of the author of our beloved National Anthem.

More steps are required to cultivate and ignite patriotism other than hiking the salary on the eve of Independence Day, foreseeing the general election. Independence Day is just not the day we pay homage to our national heroes or to murmur two lines of the National Anthem. It has to be more than that. We need to introspect , more of measures are indispensable to take the nation forward to make a united India .

Critics may say India need more of T20 international cricket matches to get all the Indians united, irrespective of caste and dogmas.

Happy Independence Day to all.

Life is a Accountancy

Life is full of ups and downs with many transition periods in between, economist say life is like the product life cycle. There is continuous change in ones lifestyle and living habits with respect to the state of mind. Even in our daily life we experience various state of mind as day proceeds, sometime somber, sometime sublime.

By BN Sinha, New Delhi

Nevertheless we are all concerned about our duty, duty towards ourselves, to our associates, guardians and also to our peers. There are times we just go blank as if mind is in a vacuum and at that particular moment it becomes difficult to concentrate or contemplate on any specific matter, and we are inclined to do what we often avoid in our daily life like taking out the old garments from the wardrobe, the decade old audio cassettes which are no longer in use, going through the old photo albums etc.

Recently I also had gone through the same state of mind and as I was wandering my eyes got rested in few of my old diaries which I used to write in my college / University days. I took a diary almost a decade old and had experienced a cerebral trance for a moment remembering few old moments of my PG days.

There was one Mr Sunil Aggarwal who happened to be the professor for Business Economics, who had once described the life’s philosophy in a different perspective. He described how an economist or an financial accountant may correlate with his trait. The line were definitely not written by me nonetheless I like to share with my beloved Bishnupriya Manipuri blog readers in order to have a different taste of reading… it says as “Life’s Accountancy….” People who are associated with commerce stream may find it interesting to read

My parents are my opening stock…
What comes I debit … what goes I credit….
My birth is my purchase account .. My ideas are my current assets…
My problems are my liabilities…
Happiness is my profit … sorrow is my loss….
Soul is my good will… heart is my fixed asset…
Duties are my outstanding expenses…
Good working is my prepaid expenses..
Friendship is my hidden adjustments…..
Character is my capital…
Bad things I always depreciate..
Good things I always appreciate..
Knowledge is my investment…patience is my interest…
My mind is cash balance….
Behavior is my journal entry….
Aim is to tally the balance sheet….
God is my closing stock…..
Death is my Sales Account….

Reading these lines after a decade takes us to a trance and ran thro a nostalgia… but life must go on…. and we are back to the present…..

Communication Fuss

Any mode of communication is to express oneself, but this mode sometimes may create rift in the life of a budding relationship. Read

By BN Sinha, New Delhi

Who says that the 21st century urban Bishnupriya Manipuri coterie do not escalate the socio-cultural ethos of the community? Unfortunately, it is not correct to the perception the elderly Bishnupriya Manipuri s have about the educated modern Bishnupriya Manipuri  youths that they are culturally less inclined to the community norms and are lackadaisical to its values.

A recent experience with one of my close Bishnupriya Manipuri  mate illustrates how sentimental and concerned the modern Bishnupriya Manipuri  youth are to their cultural identity and its uniqueness. It’s an unpleasant fact that the urban educated Bishnupriya Manipuri  youths had to sweat hard in the barren land of marriage to find an ideal match in their own community. Lack of openness in communication is considered one reason. Though there is no dearth of suitable candidates.

The story of my friend unfolds like this. My friend Sameer was feeling lucky that his friend Bina is suitable for him as both of them share a descent educational and family background and both were quite conversant with the latest modes of communication like internet chatting etc.

It is to be mentioned that Sameer is fairly established in a metro city of India and has been out of the core society for decades, first for completing higher education and later for pursuing career prospects. He is well acquainted and familiar with all the modern, urban hip-hops and lifestyles, and he is committed to get marry in his own community, the idea few of his so called Bishnupriya Manipuri friends find it weird.

On the other hand, Bina is an independent girl and stays in a separate city. Sameer’s parents have chosen her for their son.

As Sameer and Bina started exchanging mails and sometime chats to get familiar with their traits and attributes, both of them found that their chemistry is perfect and compatible. Hell break loose in their budding relationship, when a mail from Sameer was misinterpreted by Bina. It went to such an extent that it not only gave a thunder-jolt to the relationship building process but it almost headed to layoff.

Sameer had simply wrote to Bina that he being in corporate world for more than 10years find himself more comfortable with the English language as he feels it is easier to find word in English and to express himself effectively. It’s a fact that Sameer always considers himself as a responsible member of the community as he was associated with various community organizations. He just tried to be honest with Bina. But in day-to-day business it’s the English languages that he uses more.

The mail was totally misinterpreted and misunderstood by Bina and she perceived Sameer as a snobbish and ostentatious person, who prefers English to his own mother tongue. And she replied with the strongest possible detesting words and told Sameer that for her it is her mother tongue that is Bishnupriya Manipuri and its culture and values which comes first and she will not hesitate to reconsider all her decision to get tied with him.

Her response fell like a hammer-blow on Sameer head, startled to know that even in the era of Facebook and You Tube there are Bishnupriya Manipuri  youths instead of being well acquainted with modern sophisticated cosmopolitan lifestyles, still prefers to their own mother tongue and its cultural values. They are egomaniac to be identified as Bishnupriya Manipuri and they dont hesitate to send a gesture that they may layoff from any bonds or affairs, may it be a nuptial-knot.

Well… finally all ends well and reconciled in a positive note only after Sameer elaborately described his point of view towards his beloved Bishnupriya Manipuri community and also his love to Emar-Thar.

The story, truly holds the aphorism that the Bishnupriya Manipuri  Gen X are less concerned about their culture and values, baseless and untrue.

Definitely, a sigh of relief to our cultural mongers and our forefathers…. ..

(The names Sameer and Bina are fictious. )

Marriage Arithmetic Mars

Solemnizing a marriage in the Bishnupriya Manipuri community calls for an acid test from both the parties. How?
By BN Sinha, New Delhi

It is said that marriages are made in heaven and performed on earth. Then why this hue and cry about the matchmaking, why don’t we sit idle and wait for the occasion to happen to us automatically.

Well, it is a fact that considerable amount of luck plays a role in finding a soul mate or a better half. A marriage in one’s life is supposed to be the most auspicious and important incident in ones life. There is no fixed time frame for a person to get married as it depends on many issues related to personal and social aspects and also there are strict rituals and customs in every community to perform a marriage.

Even in the 21st century sci-fi era, instead of all those modern lifestyles people still love to follow all the typical community customs or norms when it comes to performing a marriage.

As we know that in love marriages the partners are adequately conversant with all the characteristics of each other before they get into the nuptial knot unlike the arranged marriages where the matchmaking or to find out a suitable candidate is always a very difficult task to accomplish.

It is always tough to find a person who can share, care and understand until someone is legitimately blessed. Lot of sacrifice, compromise and adaptability is required in arranged marriages.

Refer to Bishnupriya Manipuri community, to search out a soul mate or an ideal life partner is probably the most difficult task especially for the aspiring bride or groom who are out of the core society and are in far away places.

Brishnupriya Manipuri being a small community in numbers so also there are countable numbers of highly educated, despite it is always a sweating experience to find out a suitable match.

Unlike other community there are many norms and obligatory customs to be followed in order to find a match, which indeed makes it tougher and dismal to arrange a suitable match.

First, the aspiring couple should not fall into the same lokei/sakei and gutro. If they belong to the different lokei but fall into same gutro then it is not matched. If this hurdle is over then it comes to the horoscope matching; not to mention even the modern sci-fi society also could not come out of the belief of horoscope match.

Now, if this hurdle is also over then it comes to the family equilibrium and the physical and intellectual eligibility of the candidates. After all the barriers are over, it finally through if the aspiring couples find themselves compatible to each other in the case that either of them is pre-engaged.

Now the question is when an eligible Bishnupriya Manipuri bachelor who is out of the core society and stays in far away places tries to find a suitable match he genuinely feels the heat. It is not that there is a dearth of eligible males and females but the point is that to find out one by abiding all the preset social norms where the whole community itself is still lacking in openness in communication, it becomes really a grueling and exhausting experience.

Sometimes I ponder.. do we need more relaxed social set of laws in marriages? Or is it my apprehension that there may be a possible threat for the eligible urban Brishnupriya Manipuri bachelors?…. I don’t know….

Shame!

The Bishnupriya Manipuri language is at a very pathetic stage. Their own people living in the far off places are disrespecting their mother tongue by not using it in the day-to-day communication with their own fellow.

By BN Sinha, New Delhi

The Bishnupriya Manipuri language has got many resemblances with few of the languages of east and north east India like Bengali, Assamese etc. The script used to write the Bishnupriya Manipuri language is mainly the Bengali script which is already in the use in the primary level of the education in Assam. Though the language is not very rich with respect to literature and grammar but it is very fondly termed in the community as “Amar Thar” or few say “Emar Thar” .

Till last decade the language was widely spoken by all the Bishnupriya Manipuri people but unfortuntely it started plummeting with the passage of time even in the rural areas. The impact of the other community culture and language is much prominent in the Bishnupriya Manipuri people living in the urban areas. They love to indoctrinate the alien cultures they are surrounded by to their children.

Though it is quite inevitable for the children to adopt the local language and cultures they are grown up with. So, the children grown up in the northern part of India adopt Hindi, like Assamese in Guwahati, and Bengali in Kolkata, Silchar or Agartala etc.

The Bishnupriya Manipuri community has a unique characteristic that they can easily adopt or merge with any culture or creed that they are associated with. The ironical part of the whole story is that a considerable number of people hesitate to express themselves in their mother tongue and they take it as a pride to not follow the social norms. Sorry part is that they love to ridicule or reprimand the fellow brothers of the community.

It is always an advantage to know as many languages, cultures as possible but to know and respect its own mother tongue is also very important. Its become a common phenomena both in rural as well as urban sectors that the language is diminishing so also the core community traditions. Since Bishnupriya Manipuri community is very small in size and also not confined to a specific territory, it becomes indispensable to not to forget our Emar Thar and also should encourage our Gen-X to accumulate at least as second language or otherwise it won’t be too far when we could see our beloved “Amat Thar” along with the community in the endangered list.

Critics says that it is wise and justified to respect ones own culture and mother tongue at least for the reason that the word “mother” is associated with it and by disrespecting, one disdains his mother and the DNA he carries. Few also say that those who do not teach their children the culture and dogmas they inherited are vilifying their ancestors and are cynical.

However, on the contrary, there are also examples where a Bishnupriya Manipuri person is born and brought up in a place like Punjab or Kashmir but still very much comfortable with the mother tongue and its dogmas and also there is 21st century band which sings ……

Aaho aaho amar emare mingal korik,

habihane jat hanore tulia goje korik….

The Unique Rituals…

Like any other Hindu community, the Bishnupriya Manipuri has its own customs and rituals, more appropriately societal systems. One among this systems are Lokei and Ghar Mangoni.

By BN Sinha, New Delhi

The population of Bishnupriya Manipuri community is very small in size and is widely spread in the north eastern part of India in Assam, Tripura and Bangladesh. We all believe that we are Aryans and considerably rich with respect to ethnicity and dogmas. The community as a whole is considered as peace loving and devotional and claim itself as Vaishnavaites as it worships Lord Krishna.

There are some distinctive rules or norms prevalent in the Bishnupriya Manipuri community with respect to customs and rituals. Though Bishnupriya Manipuri community is blessed of not following the system of casteism other communities in India. However, the community is segregated into various numerous clusters with respect to their origins known as Lokeis, and Gutras. Though gutras are said to be the fleet of same Gurukul named after several mythological Rishis namely, Shandilya, Atraya, Bharadwaja, Baiyagra Padya, Kashyapa. etc which can also be noticed in other communities.

Adding to that, the uniqueness in Bishnupriya Manipuri community is the lokei system. The community is divided into clusters respective to lokei they represent like Raja lokei, Khulakpa lokei, Amungo lokei, Lempa lokei, Nenthangkpa lokei to name a few. There are more lokeis. There is not a definite history that describes the evolution of these lokeis but it is believed it originated with respect to their location, common habits or after the name of their respective ruler of the ancient Bishnupriya Manipuri inhabitants.

There are various unique norms Bishnupriya Manipuri community follow which exists in the lokei system as the people of same lokei are also known as sakeis. There are several occasions which every sakei performs together. Various obligations and rules like in Bishnupriya Manipuri marriages the lokei and gutra both have to different between the bride and groom. There is also a typical Bishnupriya Manipuri custom prevalent in the lokei system which is known as “Ghar Mangoni”.

Ghar Mangoni is basically a time period in which members of specific lokei irrespective of the territory they belong can not perform any kind of auspicious celebration or performing of puja etc. The unique nature of Ghar Mangoni is that it occurs only when a person is born or when someone dies. There are various norms and rules need to be followed at the time of Ghar Mangoni , which restricts their daily life styles and food habits. It is so prominent and of intense importance that even the 21st century urban Bishnupriya Manipuris also have not forgotten to follow these norms.

But as the whole mankind move towards the sci-fi century, all the typical customs started plummeting from all the communities including Bishnupriya Manipuri. The 21st century individual wants to be more logical and scientific and sets his own norms and rules considering the aspects of “ demand and supply” which is definitely for the betterment of mankind and the system as a whole.

But is it always justified to disobey all the old social norms and customs may be unscientific or shall we need to study the evolution of all these norms or shall we quietly follow all those norms prevalent in order to conserve the unique community customs?

I definitely need to be enlightened…..

Bishnupriya Manipuri Womein making their mark in all spheres.

The Bishnupriya Manipuri women are giving tough competition to their male counterpart. This fact reveals the status of women in the community.

By BN Sinha, New Delhi

The social values in India have changed a lot in the last two decades with the change of people’s lifestyle. We are all witnessing a rapid transition of social norms and practices in India, especially in the urban sector. Social values include practicing of the traditional cultures, customs and habits in one hand and adopting the cosmopolitan culture on the other.

The sex ratio in employment, education also in other areas like politics etc have significantly plummeted as the ratio is close to unity. Even in case of home making the modern India couples expect equal contribution. However, the rural sector have not witnessed much change as far as escalation of female ratio in developmental sectors is concerned.

Our Bishnupriya Manipuri community is also not far behind in all the developments that are taking place. Our women strata have always registered a fair number in every sphere. It was a traditional practice in BM community that we always respected and adored womanhood.

The social values of BM community is much stronger than most of their counterparts in India. The community has always respected the woman power, as Martyr Sudeshna will always be remembered as an BM icon of women power.

In BM there is always a stronghold of females in all the homemaking related issues from budgeting to children education. There are a very negligible number of incidents where as BM women are disrespected, instead they are being considered as the torch bearers of the community with respect to culture and tradition.

Traditionally the community as a whole always adopted a liberal attitude towards the equality of male and female. BM parents no longer hesitates to send his daughter away from home for higher education and employment. They are more willing, showing more interest to get them the proper education and financial stability before getting them married.

Not to mention BM women are now much advanced and are significantly doing great in every industry , may it be IT, Medicine, Education, BPOs, Law and order, Media or also in the Army. 21st century BM women are literally making their presence felt in every sector to make their parents as well as community proud.

The urban BM females are now well acquainted with the emerging cosmopolitan culture. They are now not confined to the bula-lehu or ilisha-mukhi cuisine but can distinguish between continental dishes and drinks.

A proper statistical analysis will definitely come out with the fact that the 21st century BM women are far ahead of their counterparts of the nineties. A close view to the community will reveal that the teenage BM girls are more sincere in studies and career in comparison to the boys.

A genuine threat to the next generation BM males?
