Jonaki Sinha Plesniak murdered in Poland
Santo Sinha, a Bishnupriya Manipuri, had tried to stop her daughter from going to Poland with her husband, but failed. Now he has had to visit the country himself to receive his daughter Jonaki’s dead body — and bring his 3-year-old granddaughter home.
Jonaki Sinha Plesniak, 27, was murdered earlier this month. Police in Krakow arrested her husband Maciej Plesniak and charged him with the killing.
Jonaki, who had wanted to be a singer, had been reported missing since May 16. Six days later, the police found her body in a compound attached to a house in Wieliczka near Krakow.
Sources in the Indian mission in Warsaw said investigators ascertained the cause of her death to be a blow to the head with a heavy object.
Plesniak is said to have confessed to killing Jonaki, his wife of four years, during intense questioning.
Her family, which is originally from Guwahati and has been living at Baguiati in Calcutta for some years, had informed the Indian embassy that she was missing.
“The embassy immediately got in touch with the police authorities and Indian nationals based in Krakow. The same day, the embassy also formally took up the matter with the ministry of foreign affairs in Warsaw and sent a note to the police station in Krakow seeking assistance in tracing Jonaki,” Srikumar Menon, an embassy official, told The Telegraph.
Menon added that Jonaki’s parents had reached Krakow to take custody of her body.
Santo and Ila Sinha’s eldest daughter, Sharmila, who lives in England, has also reached Poland. A.K. Roy, a neighbour and family friend, said the couple left last Friday en route to Poland once they learnt Jonaki was missing after calling their son-in-law.
“He was not being able to contact his daughter for a few days. A week ago, he called up his son-in-law who told him that Jonaki was missing. It was then that the couple grew suspicious and decided to leave for Poland,” Roy said.
Roy recalled that Jonaki had come to Calcutta and stayed in the family house with her husband and daughter about six months ago. “They looked happily married,” he said.
Jonaki met her husband in New York while she was studying computer applications, though it was singing which was her passion.
When Jonaki was expecting she had come away to India and lived with her parents in India where her daughter was born and she even took up a job in Calcutta.
After long separation, Plesniak wanted to take her and their daughter with him, to which Jonaki agreed against her family’s wishes.
They first settled in England where the Pole got a job. They left for Poland a few months ago when his contract ran out.
Jonaki’s family had tried without success to persuade her not to accompany him to Poland.

hey hey thanks guys for the compliments.
believe on my bare words comrades, I have tried alot to mince words and matters to have only failed countless number of times.
I honestly feel, Pink Floyd has not been patient with Sandy. There was an unncessary assault on him later on. Fairly had I thought he should be given a chance. Therefore i was a bit harsh with my discourse.
Having said that, I must ( I mean it), Pink Floyd is an extremely good writer. Its a pleasure to read his writes. As an elder I would like to ask Pink Floyd (for God’s sake come up with your name for once)
to patch with Sandy. And Sandy pay heed, be friends with all. Bury irrelevant issues. We all need all. Kang’s around, lets all be nice.
Apologies if I had hurt anyone.
Happy Kang

What a fate I made of mine
It’s like being trapped on a landmine.
I wonder if my harassed soul has a way;
As I never imagined seeing a day
When good old Henryy would terrorize us with spiritual decay.
Praised be thou o lord,
Render unto Henryy a mighty repulsive flatulence.
And salvage thy soul from the Devil’s influence.

Our grandfather, truly in heaven
Holy Pink Floyd always be thy name,
Thy kingdom of Isalpa Mullah Dolamuni Sheikh come,
Thy will of being called Pink Floyd till eternity, will be done,
On earth, in maltheps, as it is in heaven,
Give us this day our daily knowledge and holy tips how to lead this community,
And forgive us for our Jewish, Christian names and all those with names like Dolamuni,
And lead us not into temptation to be just sane and logical and normal
But. Please. Please for thy sake, deliver us from all the evils of irrelevance, disconnect.
Amen.

O my my where can I run for cover. Will someone call the firing squad and relieve my dammed soul or at least draw me a map to reach Gulag. I would gladly accept a hard labor camp for life than face this blood chilling barrage of slushy sloppy twisted illogical argument.
On second thought you know what! May be your macabre idea of justifying cool Jewish/Christian names is the right way forward for this poor exclusive community for greater acceptance in society. Philosophically, I follow a rigid left wing kinda thought. It makes me look cool and exotic among my coworkers and most importantly girls. But secretly I am right wing depending on convenience and hence liberal. So I say why just limit ourselves with cool Jewish/Christian names. We should be more inclusive. We should also encourage Islamic names, Zulu names, Tutsi names, Hutu names, Pigmy names etc offcourse with the suffix “sinha/singha.”
As “Forest Gump” felt after running across his neighborhood why stop here; let me run across the bridge. Once again he felt the same urge “why stop here” and he ran besides mountains and ended up running the length of Alabama. Again not content with that he almost ran the length of USA. It was philosophized it gave hope. In the same breath, I long to see a day when we will have a BM madrassa, BM Mosque, a BM Presbyterian Church, Catholic Chruch, Amish Church etc. Just imagine our good old Isalpa Mullah Dolamuni Sheikh leading the morning Azaan; a certain Father Jimmy Sinha leading the morning prayer followed by an Isalpa choir singing in praise of the holy father. Meanwhile an unknown god-fearing Catholic BM Tommy Sinha has become a top contender to be the new Pope of The Vatican.
Holy Cow our community leaders should rethink of being more inclusive and not relegate the community to just a Maltep. It is a win win situation. Thanks Henryy for enlightening me and everybody.
Now coming back to your sentiment that I have condemnation or negative attitude towards “NOT SO STRAIGHT” people, I deny it. Being god fearing I believe it is a sin and hence scared of them. Medical people call it a phobia but I don’t think it is a crime. Lots of people suffer from some kind of phobia. Brave ancient Gauls were afraid of the sky falling on their heads tomorrow but offcourse as they say “tomorrow never comes.” I have other phobias like the feeling of wriggling maggots running through the skin. Pretty weird but I don’t hate anyone; it’s too deep. Offcourse I am intolerant towards vulgar potty mouth flea ridden furballs.

The games of names honey!
Moirang, Gota,Botha, Babaitu, Chikka, Dolamuni, Senakhomba, Emajela, Laldoom, Thambalai, Thampaksena, Kapoklei,Senakhomba, James, John, Rogers, Rovers, Mary, Lucy, Senarik, Pakana, Dolagidei,
Emajela etcetera aren’t exactly pristine Vedic names but ARE familiar names. Atleast my eardrums can claim that. Therefore a Sandy and a Henryy and a Jack can be tolerated, digested and to some extent, accepted.
But before pushing down our throats names like – a Dream Theater,a Rolling Stones,a Velvet Underground,a Velvet Revolver, a System of a Down, a Firehouse, a Megadeth, a Metallica, an Iron Maiden, an Iron Butterfly, a Judas Priest, a Type O Negative, an Uriah Heep, a Black Widow, a Mister Mister, a Lucifer’s Friend , please. Please. This mankind humbly begs, O Lord give us the strength and the lunacy to comprehend, appreciate and accept such a barabaric torture.
Gawd imagine someone being called
Black Sabbath Sinha!!! Ozzy wont turn in his grave but would violently HEADBANG when he sneaks into his coffin some day.
Coming to being STRAIGHT and being something else here are some names – Oscar Wilde, Jim Morrison ( Yes it is), Tracy Chapman, Leonardo Da Vinci, Freddie Mercury, Petra Travi, Wilson Cruz, Martina Navratilova etcetera.
Your see Mr. Watson you read but you dont practice, your comprehend but you dont respect.(I mean
principles not preferences!)
Lot of people who are straight dont condemn the extraordinary names above just for their ‘preferences’
Cheers
Henryy Sinha ( Hope doesn’t sound funny as Iron Maiden Sinha !!!)

If I were Dr Watson, Sherlock Holmes would have chillingly remarked “you see Dr Watson but you do not observe.” Like Dr Watson who often misses the finer point, I completely missed the most standout trait of Sandyman his compulsive obsession for balls where he leaves no stone unturned whoever crossed his path with the oft repeated query if one has balls. Hey that’s pretty scary. I hope it is the Euro2008 bug and not SOMETHING ELSE. An expert in Superheroes says regular mild-mannered Sandy is pretty straight but his alter ego Sandyman has a slight dark side because of an altered DNA. Research is not complete but I pray there is a cure.
Now as for you mild-mannered Sandy, I am a bit baffled with you doubting my name. Do tell me since when a hidol-loving BM Vaisnav boy belonging to an exclusive community who takes immense pride for being a strict follower of ancient Vedic customs (any slight deviation from customs can leave one excommunicated) began to carry Jewish/Christian names? Well I have no clue. But you are accepted as Sandy , there is a nice bloke whose name is Henryy; hence you should have no doubt about my name being Pink Floyd.

Thanks but no thanks
Brahmananda-da.
Would rather like to be remembered as Henry Sinha then Mr. Seth!
Coming to my life’s experiences, I would rather read some inspiring, interesting literary pieces like yours than bore you with mine.
People have specific roles I guess.
Some people trigger inspiration, while some are assigned to play the verbal bouncers! I prefer the later. I can see God nodding his head.
Talking about nostalgia, I do remember you introduced me to some excellent Bangla rock, since them I keep hunting for them. Some bands from Bangladesh are extremely power packed.
These days I dont know, but maybe its my greying grey cells, but now i love listening to ishalpa’s songs on my old tape recorder.(pakanago nabulis!!!) The heks simply transport you to a certain zone of hallucinating happiness and pain at the same time.
Guess I’m done with Cradle of Filths of the world!

O’ Henry don’t sabotage everything when “SANDYMAN” was just beginning to make us zip lipped BMs realize how vile and decadent we are. Don’t you see he has all the traits of a Superhero. A self styled protector of women rights and women in distress (like all Superheroes), strong sentiments on social issues like caste, creed, religion etc and keeping up with times he has an inherent hate for Taliban his arch nemesis. Sandyman fights his nemesis with one single minded objective ‘to make hell pay.” Like all Superheroes he also has a strong philosophy which governs his life ‘If you are not with me, you are against me.”
When not fighting crimes or serving justice somewhere, his favourite pastime is spewing venom and vulgur American English on helpless BM bloggers on a BM blog site.
Well Sandy, I am an ardent fan of yours for your inherent grasp on American English vile language. But being Superhero is no mean stuff. A study has revealed that in a decade or two Hispanic is going to replace English as the most popular and frequently spoken language in US of A. So keeping with times, I suggest you feed some Hispanic vile language into the bird brain of yours….oops Superbrain of yours. Only than you can rightly proclaim a master of American vile language.
Way to go Sandy. Keep it up.
Regards.

Firstly, Sandy I admire your balls, your intention and your concern.
You stood up against a twerp, while some zipped their lips.
I guess that’s wrecking your head to bits.
Few years back I would have reacted in a similar way.
Believe you me, I would have been worse and more lethal in my lashings.
Having said that, I must tell you the best way to deal with a twerp, I repeat a twerp like ‘name doesn’t matter’ is to ignore him, ignore his existence. You must understand, this twerp is cerebrally, emotionally and intellectually challenged. He is begging for attention and you must realize that. To add to his low self esteem, this man seems to be a certified creep. Reason he won’t have the balls or the heart to come up with his name or telephone number. He is a creep. He knows it. Let his soul peacefully go kaput.
Misery must have taken a toll in his life. I won’t be surprised if he is mentally disrupted.
He needs help. And the way we help him is by IGNORING him. That’s his cure.
But. My friend Sandy though this a democratic country, we must remember this is a public forum. There is a difference between making love and kissing. We may kiss here, but making love is strictly meant for the bedroom. These aren’t rules but unseen, accepted and respected laws. We should obey. Period.
Most of the writers here are people I know, admire and adore – Rishikesh, Brahmananda, Surjit, Rebati pisha, Ranita boudi and YOU too. Please protect this site. Use clever ‘Oxford’ skills if at all you need to lash out.
Though I maybe a few years older than you are, I respect your guts and I would always ‘encourage’ speaking your mind. Only be more discreet in you words.
Jonaki ‘was’ my cousin. Past tense.
More than that, she was a talented singer.
Even more than that, she was a Bishnupriya Manipuri girl.
Let’s not let anyone pit her name in mud.
I request all not to pile up on Sandy. He is a nice guy.
And Sandy my brother, choose your words like a saint, use them like a king!
Lastly Mr. Name Doesn’t Matter – 9910248963. Call me if you need my help.
Cheers

It is a rare moment that a BM makes national news but this episode was a international news item although all for the most unfortunate reason. May her soul rest in peace. I wonder who has the custody of her daughter. Technically the daughter is an Indian by virtue of being born in India to an Indian mother. Now if she is raised in India will the BM community accept a half Polish-half BM as one of us? In hindsight even the prospect of being raised in UK by her BM aunts does not ensure a smooth upbringing in a deeply divided multiracial society of UK where subcontinental people are referred as “Pakis” and Eastern Europeans and notably Polish (referred as ‘Polacks” in a racist way) are treated as second class citizens just like Dalits in India. I also wonder if she will be accepted in Polish society. Without trying to be overtly negative, it is a strange case of identity crisis. May God give her all the strength and wisdom to overcome all challenges.

Hi ?Mr (Name does not matter),
I am not surprised to see your comment, because there has to be some people like you. It is when girls decide to marry people from other communities (as with such thoughts like yours they feel that it is better to marry someone else). It is also when girls realise that they are not welcome home once they have made a mistake and this makes them very vulnerable. This kind of feeling makes a community weak. My friend, I have met Joonaki, she was really lovely and a real talent. Just imagine someone being invited from Guwahati to perform at the Madison Square Garden (USA). In simple words its a big loss for your society , for our society.

Dear All,
Its a huge loss for the entire Bishnupriya Manipuri society, to have lost Joonaki. She was a versatile singer. She started performing Assamese, Hindi and English songs at the tender age of 10-11 years. She was invited to perform at the prestgious Madison Square Garden, New York, in 2004. She gave a great performance and one of the songs can be found online at the following link: http://www.mp3.com/artist/jona-sinha/summary/
She will remain in our hearts forever. She was always proud to be a Bishnupria Manipuri and had a vision for our soceity. She wanted all her Bishnupripa Manipuri brothers and sisters to be brave, hard working and successful.
